Greater Whitsunday Council of Mayor's Taskforce for Suicide Prevention Project- December 2022

After the June Co-design for the Greater Whitsunday Council Of Mayors Suicide Prevention Taskforce Project, our team has been crunching data and working to compile a model and final report. Developed through collaborative communication, the model embraces the voices of the Lived Experience community, Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander people, people who identify with the LGBTQIA+ community, people who live in local rural and remote communities across the Greater Whitsunday region.

Courtney has been working to complete the final project report that provides a place-based insight to suicide and suicide prevention across our Greater Whitsunday Region, along with diverse perspectives and understandings to inform future planning and design. The report will include a comprehensive implementation plan of the proposed pilot model, as well as recommendations for additional areas requiring attention based on information collected throughout the project and the co-design process.

Greater Whitsunday Communities are really excited to share that the Greater Whitsunday Council of Mayors have invested in the model, securing another 6 months’ work for Courtney to begin the next stage of the project, securing funding to implement what we have co-designed as a community!

It might require further explanation, so if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Project Officer Courtney Wilson via email courtney@gwcommunities.org.au

Now that we are stepping into the next phase where we are looking to secure funding to implement the model, we welcome any ideas, contacts, helpful tips, contributions or input of any kind. So please reach out as ANY help is so very much appreciated and needed.
